The morning programme is a half day programme which starts at 8:45am a.m. and ends between 12.00 noon to 1.00 p.m. (depending on the child’s level). The programme aims at instilling routine and independence in a child, through individualised or small group presentations, freedom of choice and outdoor play. A child’s typical day in the Montessori environment for the morning programme starts with greetings and breakfast in the morning, during which they will either work with a material of their choosing or the teacher will conduct presentations according to their lesson plan, i.e. practical life, sensorial, language, number work, culture, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin or Arts. The children are taken out to the playground for outdoor play around mid-morning, after which they have their lunch, story time, freedom of choice or presentation, before ending the day.
The afternoon programme is an extension of the morning programme, which starts at 1.00 p.m. and ends at 3.00 p.m. The afternoon programme is thematic, whereby the theme will be used throughout the week according to the activities allocated for the day, which includes craft works, culinary, science, literacy and numeracy games. The themes for the half day programme usually run from one to three weeks, depending on the curriculum. However, these themes are not exhaustive or may not be used, and new themes will be added to help the children enjoy their time in the programme. Themes include traditional songs, nursery rhymes, stories, buildings, camping, puppetry and so forth.
The full day programme finishes at 6.30 p.m. The children will start the programme after they end the morning programme; however, they will be showered and asked to nap from 1.00 – 3.00 p.m., after which they will have tea time and big or small activity time. The programme is similar to the afternoon programme, whereby it will be thematic and in accordance to the activities allocated for the day.
